Nature Walk at Maddur Tank, Hampapura

Where : Malleswara Gudda and surroundings, HD Kote Taluk

Habitat : Lake and agriculture fields, open-scrub.

Duration : Four & half Hours (7.00 to 11.30 AM)

Highlight:

  • Rain is absent for the past two weeks, crops are withering; Maddur main tank situated in the foothill of this hillock is completely dry for the first time since two decades. Small tank adjoining village is supporting last patches of water. 39 species of butterfly, 61 species of birds and numerous plants species observed. Interesting sightings,
  • Birds - BROWN-BACKED NEEDLETAIL, GREATER PAINTED-SNIPE, JUNGLE BUSHQUAIL, GREY-BELLIED CUCKOO, BRAINFEVER BIRD, TAWNY-BELLIED & YELLOW-EYED BABBLER
  • Butterflies – BRIGHT & AFRICAN BABUL BLUE, SMALL & LARGE SALMON ARAB, COMMON LEOPARD, COMMON NAWAB, all the 6 TIPs (GREAT, CRIMSON, YELLOW, WHITE, PLAIN, SMALL), STRIPED ALBATROSS. Numerous caterpillars of PIONEER on is host plant CAPPARIS spp.
  • Plants – MARTYNIA ANNUA (Fl), EUPHORIBA NIVULA (FL), CLEOME GYNANDRA & VISCOSA (FL), BUCHANANIA AUXILARIS (Fr), CAPPARIS GRANDIS (Fr), STYLOSANTHES FRUITICOSA (Fl) CLERODENDRUM SERRUTUM (Fl)
  • Observed withered AMORPHOPHALLUS COOMMUTTUS Araceae (Family) may be due to failure of rain; Normally solitary flower stalks appear after first good rain and Leaves appear with continued rains.
  • With Sheshagiri BR, Girija T, Sahana M, Anagha, Ananya, Kiran Bagade, Harsha, Arun, Naveen, Swetha, Dinesh & family, Maheswari, Archismitha, Kiran, & Aparna.

Instructions :

1. Program is open to all

2. Carry sufficient water and snacks for individual requirement

3. Please make your own vehicle arrangement.

4. Road is good up to Hampapura on HD Kote Road, where we take right turn. From here, next 7 Km stretch upto Maddur Tank is not so comfortable.

Assembly point : Ring road - HD Kote Road junction at 06.15 AM sharp (just after Srirampura Gram Panchayat Office on HD Kote Road)
