IBA CODE: IN-KA-24

HABITATS: Tropical secondary scrub/dry deciduous forest

JURISDICTION: Karnataka Forest Department

IBA CRITERIA:

  1. A1 (Threatened species/vulnerable)
    • Oriental White-backed Vulture Gyps bengalensis
    • Long billed Vulture Gyps indicus
    • Yellow-throated Bulbul Pycnonotus xantholaemus
  2. A2 (Secondary area : Southern Deccan plateau )

PROTECTION STATUS: Wildlife Sanctuary

THREATS AND CONSERVATION ISSUES

OVERGRAZING: Persistant - Surrounding villages are entirely depending on this forest for their livestock grazing

ILLEGAL MINING: Persistant - Sand and boulders mining could not be stopped

ENCROACHMENT: Persistant

FIREWOOD/TIMBER COLLECTION: Persistant -Patrolling, Cattle preventing trenches, demarking the forest and agricultural fields has not improved the situation
