Nature Walk at Ranganathittu

Place : Surroundings of Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, Mandya District

Habitat: Irrigated fields, orchards, and Riverine

Duration : 4 Hours (07.00 to 11.00 AM)

Highlight:

  • Bird species observed -79
  • Assumed that all the 35 birders enjoyed the birding without a Camera click, except Lavanya!
  • Skipped an informal introduction, really a blunder on our part. We missed a chance to interact with two elderly and knowledgeable persons.
  • Interesting observations-
    • Soaring of SPOT-BILLED PELICAN, OPEN-BILL STORK, & PAINTED STORKs.
    • Breeding activity of ROSE-RINGED PARAKEET, WIRE-TAILED SWALLOW, GREAT TIT, BLACK-HEADED CUCKOOSHRIKE and INTERMIDIATE EGRET in breeding dress
    • 12 distant and local migratory birds: COMMON SWALLOW, YELLOW WAGTAIL, WOOD SANDPIPER, BLACK & ASHY DRONGO, ROSY & CHESTNUT TAILED STARLING, BOOTED & BLYTH’S REED WARBLER, GOLDEN ORIOLE, BROWN SHRIKE, ASIAN BROWN FLYCATCHER.
    • Few interesting birds: STORK-BILLED KINGFISHER, YELLOW-FOOTED PIGOEN, CRESTED SERPENT & BOOTED EAGLE, STREAK-THROATED SWALLOW.

1. Program is open to all

2. Carry sufficient water and snacks for individual requirement

3. Please make your own vehicle arrangement to reach the location.

4. As an experiment Nature walk will be held using only binoculars, spotting scopes and without cameras.
